Are you ready to take an opportunity?

Are you ready to take an opportunity?

Think about this question for a few seconds:

Was Mark Zuckerberg ready to launch Facebook?

I don’t believe any of us are ever 100% ready for anything in life. It is all about making a decision, sticking with it, and working hard to reach your goal. When you stumble upon an opportunity, instead of asking whether you are ready, ask yourself what you could get out of it? If it makes sense, grab that opportunity with both hands and get busy.

Richard Branson once famously said: "If there is an opportunity available, say ‘Yes’ first and then figure out how to make it work.” Sometimes we are so busy figuring out if we are ready or not that we miss out on potential opportunities.

I first started as a self-employed independent contractor within Appco Group Australia’s marketing company network in 2004 after graduating with a Bachelor of Information Technology. The industry was unrelated to my degree, but I attended a client product training day and shortly after was out representing one of the top banks in Australia and speaking to potential customers.

Was I ready? 100% not! But with a mentor coaching me on the business and getting me up to speed on the systems, I took the opportunity and the rest is history.

Whether it’s in our personal or professional lives, we can’t be prepared for everything. We are not ready for having a boyfriend or girlfriend, marriage, having children or starting a business.

I had a good ‘gut feeling’ about Appco Group and becoming an entrepreneur. I saw an opportunity and ran with it.

In business, speed and timing matter, so get ready to take an opportunity when it comes your way.
